Depeche Mode - Touring the Angel

Yes, well this weekend involved the concert with Depeche Mode in Parken. And it was a blast.
It was amazing to see so many people - there were people all over!

Parken once again proved that it is not a really good place as a concert arena. First of all the sound level was disappointing - not at all loud enough. When I go to a concert I want to be the one who decides if it is necessary to use ear plugs. And Saturday’s sound level was just not high enough.
Secondly the biggest screen didn’t work! They tried and had to turn it off - that is just not ok what so ever! I would think that it does not take a hole team of engineers to make a monitor work - and my guess would be that they have tried it before. So what went wrong - very disappointing!

The band didn’t talk very much - maybe that was ok, but to my likings it was a little too little chat with the audience.

But when that is said it was an amazing concert. I am actually not aware of how long the concert was. Rarely it feels like long enough which was the case here as well. I had seen a playlist from one of thier concerts somewhere else on this tour, so I had a pretty good idea of what they had planned to play for us. Mainly old songs, which is definitely the ones I like the most. There are a few songs from last few albums which are “ok”, but besides those I think Depeche Mode has become fairly boring. But the old stuff rocks!

The beer queues were too long, and they have a bizarre system for their stalls. But we managed and so we had fantastic music in our ears, fantastic friends around, and lots of beer! Woohoo!

Thanks to my sister, Malene, Mette, Mette, Henriette, Niels Kristian, and Nanna for a fantastisk evening out!

The Alpine

Last night we went to Loppen to see the Danish band The Alpine. It was really interesting and nice. Althought they are upcommers it has to be said, that they are not streamlined enough just yet.

About 2/3’s into the concert the music changed drastically - and for the better I might add. After having thought about it for a bit I think I would compare the vibe in their more party-friendly music to Junior Senoir’s kind of music. With that said I must admit that I don’t know any of the lyrics for either of the bands, so it might be offensive for both bands.
I think The Alpine should think a little about the first 2/3’s of the music, because even though the music was nice, it didn’t have just “that” - the thing you would remember the band for.

Anyways, The Alpine has a very talented keyboard player, Ida Strand, who has an amazing voice, and luckily for the band, she is using it in many of the songs as well. If any criticism has to be said it must be that her way of singing is a little musical-alike which might not fit into a modern band, but it works very well in duets!
And bless a band where there are actually three people who can sing. The bass player sang as well and did it nicely!
The lead singer has done a lot of studing bands and band-behavoir during the the 80’s, which he almost copies in his own way on stage. Maybe he should concider just being himself!

Overall it was a good concert, and I am sure the band will live on for a while. I am not too sure though that the band has an obvious future in this constallation as the music does not at this point have a unique sound or rhythm. But maybe that will come along the way.

The Alpine’s debut album will be in the stores from Monday the 27th of Febraury.

Thanks for a very fun and nice evening out to Malene, Mette, René, and CJ.

Editors

Last night we went to the Editors concert in Vega. I had a really rough day but the concert was really really good. I heard them back in London in November supporting Franz Ferdinand, and that was when I discovered the band. This time it was just as good. There is no doubt that it was a concert worth every penny, and both Elbow, U2 and our own Raveonettes would have been proud of the more or less obvious references that Editors delivered for us.

Nevertheless I had such a bad day that I will leave the review to all the nice music sites such as Gaffa, Soundvenue , JP, and the such for letting you in on the evening’s concert.

But thanks to Malene, Trine, Mette, Pia, René, and CJ for making my evening a little better.

Death Cab for Cutie - or was it Dead boring cab ride?

(Looking for a miracle?)

Last night we were entering Vega to explore and hopefully enjoy a concert with the band from Seattle, Death Cab for Cutie. I have only heard a few songs with them before, and only because I was asked if I wanted to go to the concert.

The music to me is a mixture of Coldplay and Dave Matthews - pretty unexciting well polished pop music. In fact I am a bit surprised to have found out that they have fans in Denmark, as I don’t think it is typically music for Danish ears. Well I might be wrong on that, but maybe it is because I don’t really know anyone who listens to this kind of well-behaved-none-inspirational-pop-music. In fact this kind of people are a total mystery to me - a guy who was standing next to us was almost headbanging to the music - what was that all about!
The band’s performance offered nothing interesting. Actually I don’t remeber anything they did or said last night, which was probably not their intention. The sound though was absolutely perfact as always in Vega.

Anyways, I know the above sounds a bit harsh. I did enjoy the concert - it is always interesting to hear new music. But Death Cab for Cutie is just a bit too boring for my taste. I don’t understand how a band with fairly uninspirering music have actually done 7 albums and a bunch of singles and EPs. Maybe I am the weird one for not really liking the music.

Nevertheless I had a fantastic evening and I’d like to thank Mette, René and Malene for a fun night out! See you guys for Editors on Sunday…
